Mount Robson White-Water Rafting is a family-owned and operated company situated in full view of Mount Robson, about 90 km west of Jasper, along the picturesque shores of the Fraser River.

Stellar Descents offers adventures on the majestic rivers of the Robson Valley, all led by skilled and knowledgeable guides.

When to go

White-water rafting season runs from late May to early September. Confirm tour dates with rafting service providers when booking.

For a white-water adrenaline rush, come mid-May to mid-July, when the river is running high. For a gentler experience, book for mid-July to early September. Recommended for families.

To witness the Chinook Salmon ascend Rearguard Falls book your tour from mid-August to early September.

Know before you go

Pack a swimsuit, warm clothes, a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

Bring a camera for gentle tours. Leave it at home for the white-water tours (photos may be purchased from tour providers).

Do not feed the wildlife and keep a safe distance.

Optimal paddle boarding is enjoyed early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the water is calm, and there is minimal wind.

Summer and early fall are optimal seasons, as the warmer weather and water temperatures make for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

For those who enjoy winter paddling, it’s essential to stay warm, so make sure to wear appropriate gear.

There’s several places to launch your boat in Valemount:

Kinbasket Lake: start at the Valemount Marina boat launch

Moose Lake: located at Mount Robson Provincial Park

Yellowhead Lake: go to Lucerne Area in Mount Robson Provincial Park

• Explore streams along the Beaver, Morkill and Raush rivers

Where to canoe

For calmer conditions, Kinbasket Lake is a great place to canoe. Start at the Valemount Marina boat launch.

For more experienced canoers:

McLennan River: launch near Crooked Creek Road and paddle to Old Tete Jaune Road

Moose Lake and Yellowhead Lake: canoe with caution on both lakes. Paddle close to shore in case of harsh winds

Yellowhead Lake: find rainbow trout, rocky mountain whitefish, and lake trout. Enjoy ice fishing for ling cod when conditions permit.

Moose Lake: reel in lake trout, rainbow and bull trout, whitefish, ling cod, and kokanee salmon. Enjoy ice fishing when conditions permit.

Cranberry Lake: catch rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, and bull trout.

Kinbasket Lake: fish for rainbow and bull trout, whitefish, and kokanee salmon, but remain cautious of harsh winds.

Valemount serves as a crucial landing pad and thoroughfare for salmon, offering visitors the spectacular sight of their journey across the region.

Chinook Salmon:
Witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of Chinook salmon returning to their spawning grounds at Swift Creek in late summer. The peak of their journey lands between late August and early September and early morning or evening hours are best for viewing at this location. As this species is endangered, the number of returning salmon is low.
