Cowgirl Up Adventures offers guided trail rides, multi-day pack trips, riding lessons, and retreats.

Willow Ranch Sanctuary provides riding lessons and horse training by Irwin Insights master-certified trainers and coaches.

Cardinal Ranch hosts multi-day clinics focusing on horsemanship to help students strengthen their relationship with horses. Students can bring their own horse or use one belonging to the ranch.

When to ride and rodeo

Horseback riding season is between May and October.

Workshops and clinics run throughout the spring and summer. Check ranch schedules for current offerings.

Every July, watch the adrenaline-pumping action of riders, ropers, and wranglers showcase their skills at Valemount’s annual Canoe Mountain Rodeo. Check our Events Calendar for updated dates and information.

Know before you go

If you bring your own horse, ensure you stick to horse-friendly trails–check with the Valemount Visitor Centre for current information.

Do not feed the wildlife and keep a safe distance.

For safety and comfort, bring insect repellent and a first-aid kit.

Dress accordingly for sudden weather changes.

Hugh Allen Forest Service Road: explore more than 100 km of trail, starting the route along Kinbasket Lake towards Hugh Allen Drainage.

Westridge Family Loop: several intersecting trails and a picnic shelter make this a fun place to kickstart the season.

GEOCACHING

Geocache

Geocaches are hidden throughout the region by the Valemount Museum and local enthusiasts.

Some can be found on trails accessible by hiking, biking, horseback riding, or ATVing.

Preplan your geocaching adventure by going to www.geocaching.com and immerse yourself in the excitement of the hunt!

Geocaching is a budget-friendly adventure suitable for all ages.

How to geocache

Sign up for an account on Geocaching.com or via the Geocaching® app to access a map of geocaches.

Use the app to navigate to a geocache. Make sure to bring a pen.

Once you find the geocache, examine its contents, sign and date the logbook, then return it to its original location.

Log your experience online to share your adventure with others.

Guidebook

Enhance your exploration with the Geocache Edition Historic Hikes booklet. It features over ten self-guided hikes, each highlighting heritage sites across Valemount, Albreda, Tête Jaune Cache, and Red Pass–complete with GPS coordinates.

The pamphlet contains a stamp page for you to collect at least 10 stamps from each geocache, to earn a unique collectible coin.

The booklet can be purchased from Valemount Museum, Valemount Visitor Centre, and Infinity Office and Health.
