Reach new heights

Let the mountains move you in Valemount and the Robson Valley. You can’t help but feel humbled by the vastness of our mountain peaks and the rugged beauty of Valemount, a quaint mountain village tucked into the northern reaches of British Columbia’s North Thompson Region, along the famed Yellowhead Highway. Your gateway to endless mountain adventures in the Cariboo, Monashee and Canadian Rockies, Valemount is home to Mount Robson, a Unesco World Heritage Site and the highest peak in the Canadian Rocky chain. Feast your eyes on the enduring natural beauty taking to the wilderness at Berg Lake, Cranberry Marsh or along the Fraser River. Experience endless outdoor adventures, hiking, biking, fishing and rafting in summer, and skiing and sledding oceans of powder each winter. Just imagine the adrenaline rush you’ll feel when you add a helicopter to those summer and winter pursuits – heli-hiking, heli-skiing, finding serene and extreme adventures  in our mountain playground.

Choose your own adventure

Hike along some of Canada’s most famous and well-traveled paths at Mount Robson Provincial Park. Countless trails weave through this mountain wonder, but the finest perhaps is the legendary Berg Lake Trail. You’ll feel as though you’re walking at the top of the world – pause to take it all in – jagged mountain peaks and a turquoise glacial lake whose colours shift with the sun. Helicopter (or hike) in, then walk out – only occasionally encountering other global travellers en route. Relish that human synchronicity — that desire in us all to discover, to see and to feel wilderness on a grand scale.

Unearth the lakes and rivers that bless this region with so many bounties. They all lay in the shadow of Mount Robson dwarfing everything else around. Remain on shore and cast off into one of more than a dozen fishing holes, or bring your own boat and set sail. Find your own haven; discover your own piece of paradise, and drink in the beauty of the blue skies and the jagged peaks that frame your adventure.

Arrive in winter and find out — for perhaps the first time — the silence that metres of snow can bring. Cocoon yourself in a rustic log cabin within the company of good friends. Gather warmth from beside a well-stoked fire and revel in the notion that time and modern conveniences are irrelevant. Here, in the Valley of the Mountains, Mother Nature rules supreme.

Embark on an epic, snow-filled journey through endless terrain and deep, deep powder. Valemount is home to heli-skiing pioneers and you can experience this bucket-list moment here – just pack your skis and fly. Soar high into the alpine some 3,000 m (9,843 ft) in elevation and pause before you begin your descent. When you explode through waves of champagne powder you’ll know that the good life exists, and you are living it.

Discover each season

Visit Valemount in winter and ride miles of well-managed sledding trails, ski from some of the highest peaks in the country, snowshoe along rolling valley trails and skate through the frozen channels of R.W. Starratt  Nature Preserve.  Arrive in summer and test your endurance at the Mount Robson Marathon, or sway to the soulful music at the Robson Valley Music Festival. Come count the birds in spring and stay to cheer on the cowboys and girls at our annual Canoe Mountain Rodeo. Sample the flavours of Valemount — and its famous small-town hospitality — at the local Farmer’s Market, and discover the beauty created here at the hands of local artisans as you explore the quaint downtown.

Rediscover yourself and your passions, find endurance you didn’t know you possessed, and uncover an appetite for discovery that you’ve only ever glimpsed. And do it all right here, on your Valemount vacation.
